The young core of Cardinals continue to lead Pleasant Plains on their march to state as the Asya Smith scored 16 points to push Plains to a 43-25 win over Auburn in the 2A Riverton sectional championship on Thursday night.
Katryel Clark scored 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 4 blocks for the Trojans, but Smith got help in the form of 10 points from Caroline Jachino and 7 from Ali Fraase for the first girls sectional crown in 18 seasons.
Pleasant Plains heads to the 2A Illinois College super sectional in Jacksonville on Monday night where they will face Eureka for a trip to the state tournament next weekend.
