Prime Time Performer: Jan 29 – Feb 3

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Darion Miller (SHG Wrestler) Wrestling is going to fill up the list this week and rightfully so. The Cyclone freshman is up first after his overtime victory earned him the 113 pound regional title. Miller got a reversal and three near fall points in the second overtime to earn himself the top spot on the podium at the 2A Jacksonville regional.

Austin O’Donoghue (Lincoln Wrestler) He wants us to “know the name”. Lincoln freshman Austin O’Donoghue knew exactly where our camera was after he won the 126 pound 2A Jacksonville regional championship and let us know. We see you, Austin.

Noah Foreman (Riverton Wrestler) It’s impressive to win a regional title once, but Riverton wrestler Noah Foreman has now done that three times in his high school career. The 160 pounder had a tough match against his Southeast opponent but came out on top in his senior season.

Karl Wright (Lanphier Forward) Lanphier junior Karl Wright may not be the focal point of the Lions, but he quickly makes his presence known in every game. Whether it’s the block at the end of the U-High game to seal up a tough road win, or his 14 points, 8 rebounds and three dunks against Bolingbrook in the O’Fallon Shootout, college coaches better start taking notice.

Nick Capriotti (Rochester Wrestler) Shout out to Mason Ross and Logan Peters for winning regional titles for the Rockets as well, but Nick Capriotti’s may have been the most impressive on Saturday for Rochester. Cappy won the 195 pound 2A Jacksonville regional title with a second period pin over his Glenwood opponent.

Garrick Walker (Glenwood Wrestler) Glenwood senior Garrick Walker has been dominant for the Titans and he continued that in the 2A Jacksonville regional. Walker won the 152 pound regional title, making him a three time champion. Watch out for him in the Lincoln sectional this Saturday.

Nick Savage (Plains Guard) All eyes in the Sangamo have been on Williamsville and New Berlin since Pleasant Plains stumbled a bit out of the gate to start the season….but watch out for the Cardinals, who are getting hot at just the right time. Sophomore guard Nick Savage led his team to three wins last week, dropping 22 points against Illini Central Saturday after throwing in 18 against Maroa-Forsyth on Friday night.

Shay Doty (Springfield Guard) The Senators are CS8 champs yet again and nobody is really surprised by that. Brad Scheffler is one of the best and continues to dominate the conference. The Solons were able to lock up the CS8 on Saturday thanks to two big free throws from Shay Doty with just under 10 seconds left and Springfield only up by 1 at the time.

Joe Burris (PORTA Wrestler) A leg lock to win a regional title? PORTA’s lone regional champion this year was a returning state qualifier who locked up the 120 pound title in Camp Point Central on Saturday in impressive fashion. Burris & Trey Hild are two of seven Bluejays headed to the Olympia sectional on Saturday looking for a spot in Champaign in two weeks.

Caleb Nix (Auburn Wrestler) Last year Auburn had quite a few guys win regional titles….this year, they had just one. A changing of the guard has the young Titans still learning after the 2017 class carried the weight last year. The one guy who continues to dominate is sophomore Caleb Nix who won the 138 pound regional title in Shelbyville on Saturday and will look to get back on the podium in Champaign as he heads to the Vandalia sectional on Saturday.

Kobe Medley (Southeast Guard) The number 1 team in Class 3A according to the polls had to protect the top spot on the road Friday night in Normal. Anthony Fairlee had his usual impressive game but it was Kobe Medley who stepped up and knocked down some big shots on his way to 19 points against the Pioneers to help the Spartans stay atop the CS8 standings as well.

Catie Eck (SHG Forward) It’s that time of year….seems like every week there’s a few more players who punch their ticket into the 1,000 point club and Catie Eck did just that on Thursday against MacArthur. The Cyclones star forward has been a steady scorer throughout her entire career.

Casey Bixby (New Berlin Forward) We usually try to put a new player from every team on the Prime Time Performer list every week to share the wealth but Casey Bixby gave us no choice out in New Berlin. The Pretzels post presence has become a serious problem for his opponents. Bixby put up a game high 13 points against Williamsville and then dropped 20 against Riverton on the road.

Olivia Felts (Williamsville Forward) Some may see her as more of a softball stud for what she can do on the mound in the Spring, but Olivia Felts joined elite company last week for the Bullets basketball team. Williamsville’s go-to scorer inside surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her career in their game against Mt. Pulaski last Monday.

Levi Vorreyer (Glenwood Diver) We weren’t able to get a camera over to CS8 swim this year but Glenwood freshman Levi Vorreyer deserves a shoutout for his performance at Eisenhower pool on Saturday. Vorreyer was not only the Central State Eight champion, but he set a new CS8 conference record with a score of 454 to help Glenwood win the conference crown.
