Prime Time Performer: Nov 27 – Dec 2

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Garrick Walker (Glenwood Wrestler) For the first time ever, the Glenwood Titans won their wrestling Invitational on Saturday. A big reason why was undefeated senior Garrick Walker at 152 pounds. Walker won the 152 title with a 7-4 decision over Peter McCusker from Rantoul to score 27 team points. Special mention shoutout to Walker’s teammates Garrett Chrisman and Cade Trautvetter for also winning individual titles.

James Jones (Lanphier Guard) Lanphier walked away from the Capital City Showcase on Saturday with a 33 point win thanks to their seniors. The Lions didn’t play their best basketball in the first half and still blew away the Crimsons. The guy who doesn’t get as much attention is James Jones, who had 13 points against Jacksonville and is such a solid defensive presence.

Kobe Medley (Southeast Guard) We didn’t really know what to expect from the Spartans on Saturday and all three of us walked away very impressed. Coach Lawrence Thomas shouldn’t never, ever be doubted heading into a season with the way he handles his business on the East side. Senior guard Kobe Medley, who it seems like has been playing forever, scored 21 points on 5 of 6 from behind the arc against Eisenhower as Southeast handled the Panthers easily.

Spencer Redd (SHG Guard) If you’re tired of hearing the name from SHG….too bad. Spencer Redd’s football career as a Cyclone may have ended, but the all stater is back on the Prime Time Performer list with his sneakers on. The senior guard scored 12 points and had five boards against Glenwood to lead the Cyclones to a victory…including the game winning shot. If you haven’t seen the highlights yet….go watch. He’s a big time player who made a big time shot on the big time stage.

Armon Brummett (MacArthur Guard) We typically hear about the Brummett twins and what they are accomplishing together. On Saturday, it was Armon’s stage to shine with Amir absent from the team and he delivered. Armon Brummett scored 35 points including the dagger on a three pointer with less than a minute to play against Springfield High.

Alex Wood (U-High Guard) Welcome to the CS8, Pioneers. The U-High basketball team had their first CS8 game at the BOS Center on Saturday and were led by Alex Wood to a victory. Wood scored 24 points against Rochester, including six three-pointers.

Casey Bixby (New Berlin Forward) A lot of scoring attention is going to turn to Hunter Stockton with Max Day out of the New Berlin line-up for awhile. One guy who can step up and shoulder some of that load along with his fellow senior teammate is Casey Bixby, the Pretzels forward. Bixby scored 12 points and had five rebounds against Calvary on Saturday at the Capital City Showcase.

Isaiah Bowers (Lincoln Forward) How often do you see one player outscore the other team in a conference game? Isaiah Bowers did that on Friday night and didn’t play most of the fourth quarter. Lincoln’s versatile guard/forward scored 25 points to lead the Railsplitters to their first Apollo win over Taylorville.

Caroline Jachino (Pleasant Plains Guard) We knew Pleasant Plains was a team to watch coming out of their Thanksgiving Tournament performance. Now that we got to see them, we see why they keep winning games. One big reason is sophomore guard Caroline Jachino, who had 15 points against Auburn, including three three-pointers in the third quarter.

Olivia Felts (Williamsville Forward) We had one selection on the list this week that outscored the other team by himself. Well, Williamsville senior forward Olivia Felts almost did. The Bullet’s go-to scorer inside had 27 points against Athens….while the Warriors scored 27 points as a team. Felts is going to be a nightmare for her Sangamo opponents this season.

Payton Vorreyer (SHG Guard) The Cyclones got a big conference win last week on their home floor by being able to slow down Makenzie Bray and the Titans just enough. The leading scorer for SHG in that one was point guard Payton Vorreyer who was able to find her way to the rim for 13 points and pick up the win in Belz Gym.
