Brooklyn Blackwell scored 18 minutes in and the Cardinals defense did the rest. Pleasant Plains beat Carlinville 1-0 in the 1A QND sectional semifinal to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
Freshman keeper Emilie King was able to make a few great saves to preserve the shutout for the Cardinals, who will play Quincy Notre Dame on their home turf at 6 p.m. on Friday for the sectional championship.
