Prime Time Performers: April 10th – 15th

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

Wyatt McIntyre (Athens Track) Those in the running community certainly know the name Wyatt McIntyre. If you don’t, you better get educated. The Athens distance man will be a favorite at state this Spring and he showed that off last week. He won the 800 and the 1600 to help the Warriors win the PORTA Invite and then went to the Capital City Classic on Saturday against the bigger schools and came home with a win in the 3200 with a time of 9:42.29.

Andrew Roberts (Williamsville Baseball) The dads in the stands always say, “Right man, right spot” during games when their teams need a big hit and they’re trying to give the athlete at the plate confidence. Saturday morning, it turned out Andrew Roberts was that right man. Roberts came up and hit a walk off RBI single to help the Bullets beat Rochester 4-3. Roberts also had two RBI’s against Maroa-Forsyth earlier in the week, so on a team full of quality ball players, don’t forget the name Roberts.

T.J. Painter (Pleasant Plains Pitcher) Pleasant Plains has a pair of lefties that can straight deal. One of them is T.J. Painter and he has yet to give up an earned run on the bump this season. Painter helped the Cardinals rebound from their first loss of the season by beating a Carrollton team that only had one loss as well on Friday. Painter dealt up a complete game shutout as Plains beat the Hawks 3-0.

Danielle Dennis (Williamsville Softball) We’ve given the love to the Bullet pitching staff for obvious reasons thus far. Williamsville’s softball team is still undefeated this season in part due to their two stud junior pitchers. They’ve also got a few girls in the lineup that take aim at the fence just about every time. Danielle Dennis, the Illini commit, is a must-see every time she steps into the batter’s box. On Friday against Tri-Valley, Dennis drove in three runs to kick start the offense. If you see the Bullets play, pay attention when #19 steps into the box.

Chase Kuntzman (Rochester Baseball) Last week, Rochester put their name back in the hat in the CS8 conference with basically one swing of the bat. Down to their last strike, Chase Kuntzman drilled a two run double down the third base line that powered the Rockets to a comeback win over Springfield High and helped them sweep the Senators. Kuntzman had two hits and two runs scored against Williamsville on Saturday, he’s a guy in the middle of their lineup that just finds a way.

Jacob Maton (Glenwood Pitcher) You probably aren’t going to believe this, but someone other than Reid Detmers is on the Prime Time Performer list from the Glenwood baseball team. It’s not like Detmers isn’t deserving again after striking out 13 in a shutout win over Lincoln, but his teammate out-did him on Wednesday. Jacob Maton, the Coastal Carolina commit, gave up just one hit against the Railsplitters. The Titans won the game in five innings and Maton got the complete game shut-out. The best part? Of the 15 outs that the Titan defense recorded, Maton recorded all 15 by way of the strikeout.

Jake Nance (Athens Pitcher) We’ve got a few no-hitters and one softball perfect game this season, well now we have a (shortened) baseball perfect game. Take nothing away from that accomplishment. Jake Nance, the Athens hurler, pitched a perfect game against Warrensburg-Latham on Saturday. Nance struck out six Cardinals and only needed 60 pitches to complete the feat. We know he’s a legit threat on the bump too because we saw him throw against Plains earlier in the week and he battled into the fifth inning there.

Tony Rolfe (Glenwood Track) We knew it from the start of the season when he brought home an indoor track title. Glenwood’s Tony Rolfe has the potential to do some crazy things this season. He showed that off on Saturday at the Capital City Classic, winning the long jump with a distance of 22’1.5”, he took second in the triple jump and second in the 100 meter dash. Watching Rolfe compete this season is a must when attending track meets.

Anna Pevey (Jacksonville Soccer) Anyone outside of the Jacksonville area had to be a little surprise when the score came across Twitter last Tuesday. The Crimsons came back to defeat SHG by a score of 3-2 in CS8 girls soccer. Anna Pevey put the exclamation mark on the huge victory for Jacksonville by scoring late in the contest to complete the comeback after the Crimsons trailed by two goals halfway through the second half.
