Athens scored the first 10 points of Tuesday’s Sangamo matchup with Auburn, a game that also happened to featured the top two seeded teams at the Waverly Holiday Tournament. But a 24-5 Auburn run in the third quarter catapulted the Trojans, the No. 2 seed, to a 61-53 come from behind win over Athens, the No. 1 seed.
Auburn’s Benji Eaker led all scorers with 31 points, 23 of which came in the second half. Nick Hanner led Athens with 15 points and Drayton Davis added 14.
