Power Rankings Big Banner

Zach Kerker, Derek Parris and Chase Senior broke down the week seven Deron Powell Power Rankings on Wednesday’s edition of the Press Box on Sports Radio 1450. You can listen to that segment below:

 CS8

1. Rochester – The Rockets haven’t done anything to fall out of the top spot and we’ll see if they can hang onto the No. 1 position following week seven’s much-hyped Leonard Bowl VII

2. SHG – Led by senior quarterback Tim Brenneisen, the Cyclones have really thrown the ball well the last two weeks to add onto that potent ground game. The Cyclones will face their best defensive unit on Friday night in Rochester.

3. Glenwood – The Titans move up to No. 3, bumping out Eisenhower after the Titans defeated the Panthers in week six. It was Glenwood’s most signature win up to date and since inserting Jubbar Cross under center, David Hay’s team is 2-0 and playing its best offensive football of the year. The Titans host Jacksonville on Friday in a big one.

4. Eisenhower – Ike lost its heart and soul and quarterback, Cayleb Dehority early in the Glenwood defeat, but still went on to hang onto a lead before squandering it with under two minutes to play. That’s impressive. Dehority’s high ankle sprain has him questionable for this Friday’s game against Springfield.

5. Jacksonville –  The Crimsons are still unproven at this point of the season. Jacksonville’s biggest game awaits it on Friday night. Can the Crimsons knock off Glenwood for the second consecutive year and spoil the Titans’ homecoming?

6. Southeast – The Spartans haven’t won since week two, but they actually didn’t fare too badly against SHG. The Cyclones have been crushing everybody, but Southeast hung in there.

7. Lanphier – Cameron Smith came up huge in the upset of the week last Friday. He made a huge tackle on third down, then blocked Springfield’s potential game-winning field goal to preserve a 15-14. That gave the Lions their first win of the year, and boy, did they need it.

8. Springfield – The Senators have been chatting all season about how good they were, but frankly, haven’t backed it up. A loss to Lanphier was the nail in the coffin.

9. MacArthur – We say it every week, but the Brummett brothers are a joy to watch. To think that they’re only juniors. The Generals face a winnable game on Friday at Southeast.

10. Lincoln – You can’t say that Lincoln hasn’t improved in the slightest bit this year. The Railers have been scoring some points!

Sangamo

  1. North Mac – The Panthers are still undefeated, therefore they stay atop the Power Rankings. Losing Kendall Bearden will be a tough way to close out this regular season with some of the top teams on our Power Rankings, but North Mac just keeps finding a way.
  2. Williamsville – The Bullets jump back up to number two because Athens lost. Williamsville’s only loss is to North Mac this season with Athens looming for them in Week 9. In case you haven’t heard..Jace Franklin has ten touchdowns in his last two games.
  3. Maroa-Forsyth – The Trojans delivered a huge rivalry win on the road to prove they belong in the conversation with the top team in the league, but they also have to close out the season with Auburn and North Mac.
  4. Athens – A two point conversion away from being first in our Power Rankings. That’s how tight it is at the top and the Warriors are certainly in that discussion. Suffering their first loss of the season allows them to head to Virden this week with a chance to give the Panthers theirs.
  5. Auburn – This season is eerily similar to how last year played out and the Trojans will certainly take another trip to a state title game. These last three weeks will prove if they can repeat that incredible run.
  6. New Berlin – The Pretzels got run over by Jace Franklin last week to move them back to 3-3, but they showed the ability to put up points against an excellent defense. This team continues to grow under Trevor Compardo and they could really make a push to get two more wins.
  7. Pleasant Plains – The Cardinals came up just short of handing North Mac their first loss. A field goal sailed just wide and with it went the hopes of the playoffs this season. Now the birds have a chance to gain some quality experience for a young team that has shown a ton of potential this season.
  8. Pittsfield – The Saukees sent PORTA home with a loss, an excellent way to keep their group excited about competing for the final month of the season.
  9. PORTA – One step forward, one step back. After picking up their first win, many thought they could beat Pittsfield. Instead the Bluejays will look to continue the progression of some young talent for the coming seasons.
  10. Riverton – After getting shutout in the first month of the season, the Hawks are starting to put up points. Kyle Hogan seems to be showing off that arm a little bit more lately.
