Prime Time Performers: September 5th – 10th

BIG PTP No Add

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

Evan Champley (Taylorville Running Back) A Champley is back leading the way for the Tornadoes. Tanner’s younger brother Evan ran for 99 yards and scored three touchdowns in Taylorville’s home opener against Rantoul on Saturday evening. He’s also a force on the defensive side of the ball, coming off the edge and blowing up quarterbacks. Jeb Odam gets this Champley for this year and next year, so keep an eye on this kid.

Caitlin Tierney (Springfield Swimmer) The Senators won 8 of 12 events at the Capital City Classic swim meet and two of them went to Caitlin Tierney. She won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.3 and then the 100 freestyle in a time of 53.68. Tierney was the anchor of the 200 free and 400 free relays as well, both victorious.

Annie Urbance (SHG volleyball) Through four games at the Jacksonville Invite last weekend, the Cyclone outside hitter tallied 26 kills and six aces. The all tournament team selection is the most reliable returner from last year’s team and if SHG wants to get back to a deep run, Urbance has to continue to put up these kind of numbers.

Jubbar Cross (Glenwood Running Back) On throwback night for Glenwood, it was the typical rushing attack that carried them to victory. Four of their touchdowns came from junior Jubbar Cross, who has proven to be an excellent weapon for first year head coach David Hay, after he transferred from Springfield High. Cross carried the ball just seven times but racked up 106 yards against Lanphier as Glenwood moved to 2-1.

Alec Ostermeier (Rochester Running Back) If I asked you which Rochester football player would score three touchdowns in the first quarter against Southeast, the good bets would be Collin Stallworth, Avante’ Cox or D’Ante’ Cox. Those would all be wrong. Running back Alec Ostermeier touched the ball 15 times against the Spartans and scored three times in the opening 12 minutes while rushing for 131 yards, all in the first half. Good luck trying to stop this offense.

Jace Franklin (Williamsville Running Back) The Williamsville work horse got 33 carries against the highly talked about Maroa-Forsyth defense. All Jace did was prove why he’s the best running back in the conference. He scored four touchdowns and ran for 215 yards against the Trojans. If you haven’t seen him play yet, do it. Especially this week against the size of North Mac.

Tai Haney (Auburn Linebacker) Some players put up big numbers to put themselves on the Prime Time Performer list, while others just make the big plays when it matters the most. Tai Haney is the guy who made the big play against Pleasant Plains on Friday to send Auburn home with a win. Haney’s pick six with under four minutes to play sealed up the win for Auburn, who needed that win after losing to Williamsville.

Danny McCloud (New Berlin Running Back) The Pretzels got Trevor Compardo his first victory as head coach. A big reason why New Berlin was victorious was Danny McCloud who found the end zone four times against PORTA. One was a 76 yard kick return score and the other three came off of him rushing for 141 yards. New Berlin gave North Mac a game and then picked up a win over PORTA, the momentum is moving in the right direction for McCloud and the Pretzels.

Claire Hemberger (New Berlin Volleyball) The Pretzels have jumped out to a fast start in the Sangamo and a three set win over Auburn last week proved New Berlin is in the running this season. Claire Hemberger tallied seven kills, three aces and 19 assists against the Trojans.

Leah Musselman (Williamsville Volleyball) Williamsville has plenty of girls that can pick up kills on the volleyball court, led by Delaney Edwards, but someone has to set them up. Leah Musselman always seems to put the ball in the right spot for the Bullets and that’s a big reason they are successful. Muscleman had 26 assists in Williamsville’s two set win over Riverton.
