What will your team do well?
We will be consistent on offense, take care of the ball, control the clock, and take what the defense gives us. On defense we will communicate, tackle, and not give up big plays in the secondary. Our pass defense is greatly improved on the defensive side at LB and DB.
What are the questions marks for this team heading into the 2016 season? Offensive line depth
What’s something about this team worth noting?
The marked improvement teams traditionally make in year 2 of running this offense and defense. Players are no longer thinking on the field, they are reacting from muscle memory. We have been able to expand both playbooks because our players not only know the plays, now they understand what we are schematically trying to accomplish on each play. We have a team full of very smart football players.
Head Coach Roy Gully says: Most coaches give themselves 3 years to judge what kind of impact they have had on their program. I believe we will see our program come in ahead of schedule by accomplishing that in year 2. The Springfield community is recognizing that SHS football is stabilizing and players want to be and are proud to be a part of this program. We are ahead of the curve thanks to the dedication of players like Lucas Rockford, Cameron Jones, and Reed Carlson who never miss a workout and give 100% every day. We are ahead of the curve because of the dedication of our coaches who go above and beyond the call and work to make our players good ball players but also good people. In 2 competitive activities I have seen more team building and winning traits on any team I have ever been a part of as a player or coach. These winning traits will carry over to the field and SHS will be greatly improved in year 2 under this staff.
