Rochester Wins Girl’s Golf State Title; Savage Finishes Runner Up

Guided by head coach, Jeff Hill, the  Rochester girl's golf team won the Illinois state championship on Saturday, carding a two day score of 675, good for 99-over par at the par 72 Red Tail Run Golf Club in Decatur. 

Morgan Savage led the way for the Rockets, shooting a 78 on Friday and 74 on Saturday. Savage finished second individually to IC  Catholic's, Maddie Hurst in a sudden death playoff that went two holes. Savage and Hurt both birdied the 10th hole and Hurt birdied the 11th to seal the individual state title. Hurt finished the two day tournament at 8-over. Savage surged up the leaderboard on Saturday after heading into Saturday, trailing by four strokes and in third place.

Rochester entered the final day trailing by 11 strokes, but the Rockets were able to avoid large numbers throughout the round to come back and win by 16 strokes. 

Two day totals: Lindsay Alewelt finished with a 188, Katie Archey carded a 196, Gabby Isaacks notched a 166, Andria Robinson fired a 169 and Kayleigh Blaney chipped in with a 244.
