The Cyclones had one rally in them to get the game tied.  They just didn't have another to get the win.  The Panthers spoiled the party with two runs in the top of the 10th inning & held on for a 5-3 victory.

This one could've gone either way and you got that feeling early.  After great defensive plays by both teams in the first couple of innings, it was SHG that got on the board first.  Katie McLean doubled down the left field line to score Jessica Antonacci and make it 1-0 after three frames.

Washington responded with a run in the top of the 4th and then took the lead an inning later on Madi McCoy's massive two-run homer to left field.

The game would stay that way until SHG put their big rally together in the bottom of the 6th.  McLean led off the inning with another double and scored on Bree Derhake's single to center.  That made it a 3-2 Washington lead, but the Cycs weren't done.  After a strikeout and an error left runners on 1st & 3rd, Cyclones pitcher Whitney David helped her own cause with an RBI groundout to tie the game 3-3.

That would be score into extra innings as both teams had opportunities but were unable to capitalize.  In the 10th, Washington finally broke through.  The Panthers scored a pair of runs thanks to an RBI basehit and a nicely executed steal of home to make it a 5-3 game.

SHG would go down in order in their half of the 10th and will have to settle for a spot in Saturday's 3A third place game.

McLean finished 2 for 5 for SHG, which only mustered 5 hits all together.  David worked all 10 innings on the mound for the Cyclones and was saddled with the loss.  She fell to 22-4 on the year.

SHG will face Kaneland in Saturday's consolation game which will now be played at 9am do to the threat of rain in the Peoria area.
