Mary Gegen (Rochester Volleyball) – What a week for the Rockets, and what a week for Gegen! Rochester rolled this week, beating Williamsville, SHG and Pleasant Plains, the last two being teams the Rockets fell to last year. Gegen was a major factor in all three wins, tallying 38 kills in those games. She leads the CS8 with 167.

Darby Moore (SHG Volleyball) – The senior coming up clutch! Moore led the Cyclones in kills and played an all around fantastic game to help SHG secure another city volleyball title Thursday night. On top of that she delivered the perfect I’m Sooo Happy moment after the game.

Caroline Jachino (Pleasant Plains Cross Country) – Caroline Jachino continues to absolutely dominate the field at almost every cross country event she attends. At the Springfield Invite on Saturday Jachino finished first in the girls’ race with a time of 18:39. This was with other bigger and very talented area schools in attendance, such as Springfield High and state-ranked Glenwood.

Sam Sweetland (SHG Football) – On a night many at SHG will never forget, senior quarterback Sam Sweetland had a game he will never forget. The signal caller was excellent all night passing for 250 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown in SHG’s 45-6 blow out of Rochester in Leonard Bowl IX. Head coach Ken Leonard notched career win number 375, becoming the all-time winningest coach in Illinois history, and Sweetland had a big hand in helping him get there Friday night.

Derrick Taylor (MacArthur Football) – Another week of MacArthur proving to everyone that they are in fact the real deal. Running back Derrick Taylor continued his terrific season with a monster game against Southeast, tallying 213 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in a 38-32 win.

Dawson Brooks (Normal U-High Football) – The Pioneers finally showed some of the potential they flashed in the CS8 a season ago, where they barely missed the playoffs with a 4-5 record. They got their first win of the 2018 season on Friday at home against Lanphier, and quarterback Dawson Brooks’ night was a big reason why. Brooks threw for 312 yards passing and three passing touchdowns, adding 58 yards rushing, in a 41-12 win.

Luke Lehnen (Glenwood Football) – The Glenwood QB just keeps giving us reasons to put him on our PTP list. Lehnen went crazy yet again this week against Jacksonville, rushing for 134 yards, passing for 129 yards, and throwing four touchdowns in a 42-3 win. Glenwood remains the only undefeated team in the CS8.

Keegan McGann (Williamsville Football) – McGann got off to a ridiculously good start in the Bullets’ win against North Mac Friday night. On Williamsville’s first play from scrimmage, McGann caught a 74 yard TD. He followed that up with a blocked punt return touchdown, then added an interception on defense. McGann was quite literally all over the place in the Bullets’ 41-21 win.

Justin Bivins (Springfield High Football) – The senior running back has been an absolute stud for the Senators this season, and he continued that on Friday night in a huge 64-28 win over Eisenhower. Bivins ran for 190 yards and two touchdowns, ran back a kick return for a TD, and added two catches for 37 yards to boot.

Gavin Clifton (Maroa Forsyth Football) – Gavin Clifton didn’t get a chance to start the season with the Trojans, but he sure is making the most of his time now. In a dominant 49-7 win over Pleasant Plains at home, Clifton went nuts, to the tune of 183 yards rushing and five, yes FIVE, touchdowns. Clifton is emerging as a legit workhorse for the Trojans.
