The Pioneers needed three sets but were able to walk away from Belz Gym with a huge CS8 win over SHG 25-17, 23-25, 25-14 to put the conference on notice early in the year.
U-High finished third in the state last season but graduated eight seniors from the historic run. The Cyclones won the CS8 outright last year, but couldn’t slow down Alayna Crabtree and Isabel Shaefbauer, two Pioneer juniors, who led their team to victory.
