Prime Time Performer: May 21 – 28

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Danielle Dennis (Williamsville Softball) The writers in Hollywood could pen a softball movie and not be able to script it as well as what happened on Monday. Bottom of the seventh, two outs, full count and the bases loaded and Dennis hits a walk off grand slam to send her team to the state tournament….it’s literally what every kid dreams about.

Pleasant Plains 4×400 Relay – The combination of Jonah Miller, Sam McAfee, Michael Scott and Luke McGraw brought home the Cardinals’ only first place finish from Charleston last Saturday. Their time of 3:23.01 was the best in the state in Class 2A.

Karl Wright (Lanphier Track) A personal best and a third place finish at state for Karl Wright needs to get some attention. The Lanphier leaper said his knee felt good and that allowed him to clear 6’9” in the 2A state high jump last Saturday. The Lions are looking forward to having him back for another year on the hardwood and in the high jump.

Paige High (Glenwood Softball) There were a lot of different bats that brought in runs during the 3A Lincoln regional championship but sophomore Paige High’s two run single late proved to be just enough to push the Titans into the Mt. Zion sectional.

TJ Painter (Pleasant Plains Baseball) Revenge is a dish best served up with the strikeout. Pleasant Plains pitcher TJ Painter sat down 13 QND Raiders with the “K” as the Cardinals crushed their rivals and won a sectional title on Saturday.

Avery Dugan (Jacksonville Baseball) The Crimsons shocked the state last week with their performance in the postseason. Coming in with a sub .500 record didn’t matter because Avery Dugan led Jacksonville to a regional upset over SHG with a 4-3 win.

Maria Jorquera (Springfield High Soccer) The Springfield High Senators made Pat Phillips sweat it out for most of the game, but instead of needing overtime, Maria Jorquera scored the game winner with 3 minutes to play to put her team into the sectional championship. Shoosh’s game winner against Mahomet-Seymour put the Senators into the sectional title game so she gets the nod for Prime Time Performer this week.

Todd Fowler (Glenwood Baseball) The Delta State signee wasn’t ready for his high school career to be over just yet. Jacksonville gave Glenwood all they could handle but Todd Fowler hit a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh to force extras and allow the Titans to advance to the 3A Decatur sectional.

Kate Beckemeyer (Maroa-Forsyth Softball) She earned herself the belt and the chance to play in a sectional championship. Kate Beckemeyer threw a complete game shutout against Bloomington Central Catholic and had a big three run double that blew open the scoring against the Saints in the 2A Gibson City sectional.

Trace Miles (Rochester Baseball) Regardless of the opponent, we’ve given a shoutout to anyone that throws a no-hitter. Rochester pitcher Trace Miles did just that against MacArthur in the regional semifinal last week as the Rockets won 10-0 and moved into the championship. Miles picked up nine strikeouts in his final time pitching on his home field and he even chipped in two hits against the Generals.
