Prime Time Performer: April 30 – May 5

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Danielle Dennis (Williamsville Softball) Anybody who sees her play softball can see why she’s headed to play for the Fighting Illini next season. Dennis has cemented her spot in the Williamsville lineup as the home run hitter, but as we saw last week, she certainly isn’t the only one. Dennis had a triple and three RBI in a non-conference quality win over U-High and had a big two run home run against Tri-City to stop any Tornado momentum.

Greg Downs (Auburn Track) The Trojans track team came away from the Sangamon County meet last week with a lot of our respect. Auburn junior Greg Downs was putting on a clinic with four first place finishes. Downs won the 400 (51.58), the triple jump (40’9.5”) and the 100 (11.56) and helped out the 4×100 to a win and a a new school record (44.45).

Caroline Jachino (Plains Track) When long distance runners show up to track meets in central Illinois and see Caroline Jachino warming up….they probably just want to go home. Jachino swept the distance events at County last week, breaking the girls 3,200 meet record (11:29.88) and winning the 1600 (5:19.99). Just in case you forgot, she’s only a sophomore.

Wyatt McIntyre (Athens Track) Another future Illini lands on the Prime Time Performer list this week. Athens long distance man Wyatt McIntyre continues to leave his name in the history books before he heads off to Champaign in a couple months. McIntyre broke the boys 3,200 meet record (9:25.15) at the Sangamon County meet last week and also won the 1600 with a time of (4:25.85).

Ozzy Erewele (Springfield High track) Guess who’s back? We can’t leave Ozzy out after the week she had. In the highly anticipated 100 yard dash featuring Tina Martin (Eisenhower), Serena Bolden (Southeast) and Ozzy, she won and broke the CS8 record with a time of 11.78. Erewele also came home with second in the 200 and second in the long jump.

Serena Bolden (Southeast track) If you’re tired of hearing the name Serena Bolden during track season…come back in two years. The junior continues to put on a show every time we see her on the track. Bolden won both jumping events at the CS8 meet and earned herself a new pet cat in the process. She finished second in that stacked 100 we just talked about and broke the previous meet record in that as well at 11.93. Holden’s long jump (20’1.25”) and triple jump (40’3.25”) are new meet records and will put her in a real good position to possibly win state titles in a couple weeks.

Makenzie Bray (Glenwood track) Basketball is the game, but winning is becoming part of Bray’s name. Makenzie Bray is the model of consistency when it comes to the field events for the Titans. Bray won the discus (122’3”) and the shot put (40’1”) at the CS8 meet. That’s her third straight sweep of these events.

Cam Ferbeck (Plains baseball) The Pleasant Plains vs Williamsville rivalry gave us another exciting chapter last week on the baseball diamond. When he was chased off the mound, Cam Ferbeck didn’t hang his head, instead he dominated at the plate. Ferbeck drove in six runs to help the Cardinals beat the Bullets, including a three run home run.

Cam Edmonson (Rochester baseball) There’s a lot of quality pitching in the CS8 and plenty of good hitters, but how many are known for both? We saw two play each other last week in the Glenwood vs Rochester matchup and Edmonson hit a home run in both games and then struck out and got the win on his day to pitch. The junior is drawing some serious attention and should be on everyone’s radar as guys to get out and watch live.

Maya Black (Glenwood softball) In the battle for what will probably be second place in the CS8 softball standings, Glenwood needed a clutch home run to win the first matchup with Rochester. Maya Black blasted a two run dinger to help the Titans win on Tuesday. Black came back on Wednesday and hit a home run in the first inning to start Glenwood’s ten run win on Wednesday.
