Lanphier Lands First City Wrestling Title Since ’15, Beating Springfield Who See’s Peyton West’s Career Come To An End

Lanphier defeated Springfield 48-15 in the final team dual of Friday’s City Wrestling Tournament, securing the first City crown for the Lions since 2015. After the win, Lanphier head coach Matt Moore fought back emotions as he dedicated the win to former Lanphier wrestling coach Jim Gardner who’s battling health issues.

Springfield, who is already without Jacquez Stewart (dislocated elbow) and Matt Thoele (broken foot) for the season is now also without defending 2A state runner-up Peyton West as well. West laid his shoes at the center of the mat after earning a win by pin in the final match of his career. The senior has been wrestling on a torn ACL which he’ll have surgery on next week.
