It was the kind of state championship game you wanted to be a part of, just one you’d prefer to be on the other side of for Maroa-Forsyth. The Trojans gave up the game winning score to Gibson City Melvin Sibley with just 1:08 seconds left to play in Friday’s 2A state championship game at Huskie Stadium on the campus of NIU in Dekalb. Maroa fell 38-32 to finish as the 2A runner-up for the second straight season.
Deondre Gregory rushed 20 times for 128 yards and a score. Aaron Inda scored three times for the Trojans. GCMS posted 302 team rushing yards with 139 coming from Mitch McNutt and 132 more coming from Jared Trantina.
