Prime Time Performer: August 21st – 26th

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Nic Baker (Rochester Quarterback) The “worry” out in Rochester was who will Nic Baker have to throw to. He proved on Saturday that’s not a concern. Baker threw for five touchdowns to four different receivers while racking up 335 passing yards in two quarters of work. Baker also ran for a touchdown in his most impressive highlight of the evening, carrying defenders into the end zone.

Ian Benner (Maroa-Forsyth Quarterback) When Josh Jostes starts a sophomore quarterback, all eyes are alerted. Turns out the first run for Ian Benner met the expectations. Benner proved he can chuck it with 152 yards in the air and two passing touchdowns to go along with 95 yards on the ground and a score there as well.

Jake Mullink (North Mac Quarterback) Who’s next to line up behind the Big Sexies in Virden? Junior Jake Mullink stepped in at quarterback and did exactly what Brennan White and Grant Graham were able to: bring home a Panther win in dramatic fashion. Mullink threw for one touchdown and ran for two, including the game winner with 3:53 left in the game against PORTA.

Taryn Wallace (Springfield High Running Back) The Senators entered the 2017 season with as much skill as any team in central Illinois. We knew about Lucas Rockford, Caleb Small, Peyton West and Wendel Burnes in the backfield and then another Solon emerged on opening night. Taryn Wallace, the sophomore, scored three touchdowns against U-High, two on the ground and one through the air.

Drayton Davis (Athens Running Back) No surprise here but Athens can run the ball. Their line is huge and they’ve got multiple options. The best one all year will be Drayton Davis and he started his senior season with three rushing touchdowns and over 120 yards on the ground in the Warriors’ win over Pleasant Plains.

Brian Adams (SHG Running Back) Unfortunately this is the last time we’ll see BB on this list for awhile. The two headed, division one bound, monster in the SHG backfield is down to just one after Week 1. Tremayne Lee will have the carry the load in the regular season after Adams broke his collarbone against Jacksonville. BB led the Cyclones in Week 1 with 147 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, with runs of 45 and 71 yards.

Justice Ferrier (Williamsville Quarterback) Justice Ferrier left no doubt in our minds who will get drafted every week in our high school fantasy football league. The Bullet QB was responsible for five touchdowns against Riverton. Ferrier threw for 196 yards and three scores, while rushing for 87 yards and two scores.

Cayden Muench (Auburn Running Back) Speaking of fantasy, we missed out on this guy. Cayden Muench was responsible for five touchdowns as Auburn ran all over Pittsfield. The scary thing is, Auburn is going to throw a lot with Destin Chance finding Benji & Bossmann, which opens up the run game for Muench.

Luke Lehnen (Glenwood Quarterback) The ability to let Jubbar Cross play multiple positions makes the Titans much more dangerous. The sophomore who took over at quarterback showed he’s more than capable in Week 1 with 148 passing yards and four scores, two on the ground and two in the air against the Spartans.

Bailey Morrow (SHG Volleyball) Last week didn’t just start football season. Volleyball got underway and it looks like the Cyclones are the top contender in the CS8 again. SHG has a lot of girls that can rack up the kills and Morrow is one of them. Morrow had ten digs against Quincy and 11 kills against Normal West over the weekend, after tallying eight kills against Jacksonville.

Jonah Cassens (North Mac Soccer) Landing on the Prime Time Performer list isn’t exactly the most exciting thing that happened to North Mac senior sweeper Jonah Cassens in the past week, but it’ll add to the list. Cassens landed himself on Sportscenter’s Top Ten list last week after scoring the game winning goal on a free kick with three minutes to play against Hillsboro.

Seth Tavernor (Riverton Soccer) A lot of soccer players would be happy scoring 13 goals in a season. Riverton’s Seth Tavernor scored that many in the first week of the season. Tavernor had six goals in season opener against Athens, three goals against Lanphier and four goals against Litchfield. Seth isn’t just a scorer either, he had three assists against Decatur Christian and the Hawks are 4-0.
