Several Area Swimmers Qualify For State; Springfield Wins The Team Title


 

Springfield High accumulated 292 points at Eisenhower Pool on Saturday afternoon to claim another sectional title. As a team, Chatham Glenwood finished in third place.

Individually, several area swimmers are off to state in Winnetka, Illinois next weekend.

From Springfield, Matthew Knox and Gage Hamill qualified in the 200 yard freestyle, Jake Frech qualified in the 50 yard freestyle. Hamill and Michael Patton qualified in the 100 yard butterfly. Knox qualified in the 500 yard freestyle. Patton qualified in the 100 yard backstroke.

Caleb Babb of Jacksonville Christian took first place in the 100 yard breast stroke and 100 yard butterfly to advance to state. Max Willner of Jacksonville qualified for state in the 100 yard butterfly.

Springfield swept the competition in every relay, so the Senators have will be competing at state in the 200 yard medley relay, the 4×2 freestyle relay and 4×4 freestyle relay.

Springfield’s Drew Harmon won the diving title for the Senators.
