SHG’s Jennings Stuns Putnam In Sectional Finals, Springfield’s Stewart And West Crowned


 

Glenwood’s Will Putnam has earned a lot of headlines for the Division I offers rolling in for him from the top college football programs in the nation. On Saturday, SHG’s Trent Jennings stole those headlines by handing Putnam his first loss of the season in the 285 pound finals of the 2A Mascoutah wrestling sectionals.

Jennings is also the first Cyclone to earn a trip to the state tournament in wrestling since 2006. Putnam is a state qualifier as the heavyweight runner-up.

Springfield High had a pair of sectional champions crowned in 126 pound sophomore Jacquez Stewart and 160 pound senior Peyton West. Glenwood’s Garrick Walker (145 lb) and Taylorville’s Heath Fleming (170 lb) both finished as runner-up in their respective weight classes and will join the group in Champaign next week at the state tournament.
