Prime Time Performers: Holiday Hoops Edition

BIG PTP No Add

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

Jake Pennell (Williamsville Guard) Our #TQT target this week earned his turn in the spotlight during the Williamsville Holiday Tournament. On a team with a couple different guys that can take over the scoring, Pennell was the most consistent throughout their run to the title game where they almost upset Tremont. Jake had 20 against the Turks, 22 against Dee Mack and 14 against Deer Creek, proving to be the senior leader this team will need in the coming months.

Hunter Stockton (New Berlin Guard) Stepping to the line with a chance to give your team a three point lead with less than ten seconds to play, junior Hunter Stockton earned his spot in Prime Time Performer this week. Stockton swished both free throws and finished up with a team high 18 points, including nine in the first half to lead the Pretzels to a Waverly Tournament championship crown. Stockton also scored 24 points in New Berlin’s “upset” of the number two seeded Auburn Trojans earlier in the week.

Yaakema Rose (Lanphier Guard) Yaak put on quite a show up in Pekin and for those who haven’t seen him embarrass multiple ‘defenders’, do yourself a favor and go watch the highlights from Lanphier’s tourney run. Yaak earned tournament MVP with 20 points in the title game, 25 against Moline, 23 against Hersey and 19 against Limestone. We don’t have time to list all the other stats he put up, so just trust us. Yaak earned the MVP in Pekin.

Jack & Nick Livingston (Taylorville Guards) The sophomore class out in Taylorville is a special one on the gridiron and on the hardwood. Our first look at the Tornadoes this season showed us that the Livingston twins are certainly part of that special sophomore class. They combined for 16 against Rochester, 28 against Dunlap, 15 against Galesburg, 26 against Sterling and 17 against Galesburg again in the 3rd place game. They can shoot from the outside, hit the pull jumper and are long and athletic on defense. Watch for the Livingston Twins from Taylorville!

Trevyon Williams (Southeast Guard) We noticed it last year about this time too, Southeast’s point guard Trey is starting to take over games. Williams had 22 points, eight boards and four steals against Eisenhower and he put up 17 against Oakville. The Spartans made it all the way to the semifinal before running into 4A powerhouse Edwardsville, led by the tough guard play from Trey. He’s absolutely relentless and still has the Spartans as our number one in the Power Rankings.

Lyric Boone (Rochester Forward) The Rochester Lady Rockets made it all the way to the semifinals up at the Classic thanks to their post presence. Bowling Green bound Angela Perry led the team in the scoring throughout the tournament but Lyric Boone made her presence known up in Bloomington as well. Boone, also known as Magro’s enforcer, scored 14 points including the final bucket against North Lawndale to send the Rockets to the semifinals. With most teams focusing on Perry, Boone is an excellent sidekick on the low block for Rochester.

Drayton Davis (Athens Guard) The Warriors have plenty of scoring options but the Pretzels were able to slow them down in the Waverly Holiday tournament championship. Drayton Davis was the only one who was able to get to the bucket consistently and scored 10 of Athens’ 33 points in the close loss. Throughout the Waverly Tourney, Davis wowed the crowd with dunks and blocks, but impressed us most with his growth as a scorer off the dribble, able to create on his own.

Katryel Clark (Auburn Forward) Halfway through her junior year and Katryel Clark has already passed the 1,000 point mark. The junior Trojan center is something special and so fun to watch. Clark had 18 points and 15 boards against PORTA in the Riverton Holiday Tournament and then put up 21 points and 16 rebounds against Hillsboro. She easily made the all tournament team and will continue to be on everyone’s radar when they see Auburn on the upcoming schedule.
