Prime Time Performers: November 28 – December 3

BIG PTP No Add

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

Trey Hild (PORTA Wrestling) He’s expected to win every weekend after finishing second in the state his first two years of high school. The PORTA junior continues to pile up the wins and added four more to his total at Litchfield this weekend. Hild passed the century mark for wins in his high school career and will only add to that as the season goes on as he looks to get back to the podium in Champaign.

Peyton Hudspeth (Auburn Wrestling) Last year he ended his junior season on the podium, finishing fifth in the state. This year the Trojan grappler is off to a 7-0 start including picking up win number 100 in his high school career. Hudspeth wasn’t even wrestling at his usual weight class this week and won in dominating fashion. He’s ranked #1 in the state at 195 pounds and we can’t wait to see what he does this upcoming weekend at the PORTA Invite against more quality opponents.

Casey Tuttle (Williamsville Guard) We went into last week knowing that Williamsville would be competitive again because Nick Beard doesn’t disappoint. But with the loss of Matt Watson, John Beal and Harrison Creswell we didn’t know who would be there to help out Jake Pennell. Casey Tuttle answered the bell with six threes on his way to 31 points against North Mac and then followed that up with 17 against Peoria Heights on Saturday.

Aundrae Williams (Lanphier Guard) The final game of the CS8 Showcase was somewhat anticlimactic as Lanphier pulled away from the Crimsons in what we thought could be a close game. Most of the second half saw Aundrae Williams dribbling the ball near center court because the Lions had a comfortable lead. The point guard for the undefeated North Side had 20 points against Jacksonville and has shown us in the first few weeks that he’ll be on the Prime Time Performer list at least a few times this season.

Austin Chapman (SHG Forward) We’re used to seeing him fire fastballs past opponents but baseball is still a few months away. Austin Chapman has some skill on the hardwood too. Chapman posted 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds as SHG made a statement at the Showcase on Saturday by beating Glenwood by double digits.

Anthony Fairlee (Southeast Forward) There’s plenty of seniors on LT’s roster this season that we expect to carry the load for the Spartans but a sophomore has shown the ability to be the star of that squad. Anthony Fairlee sometimes looks like he has pogo sticks for legs and energy that doesn’t quit. He put up a double double against Eisenhower at the Showcase, 13 points and 14 rebounds as Southeast came back to beat the Panthers for an important early season CS8 win.

Angela Perry (Rochester Forward) Revenge is sweet. The Lady Rockets have had some time to think about how Lincoln knocked them off in the sectional semifinals last year and went on to the UIS super sectional. They got their chance to see them early in the CS8 season and Angela Perry led the charge as Rochester handled the Railsplitters with ease. Perry scored 18 points in the Rochester win but that’s not all she did last week. The Bowling Green bound forward had 19 against Lanphier on Saturday and 14 against QND on Tuesday, all wins for the Rockets.

Katryel Clark (Auburn Forward) We saw an exciting game between Auburn and Pleasant Plains come down to the wire on Thursday and while Bev Watson’s buzzer beater didn’t go down, even if it would have, there was still no doubt who the most dominant player on the floor was throughout the game. Auburn junior forward Katryel Clark is a must-see in the Sangamo this season. She does a little bit of everything for the Trojans, who, don’t look now, but they’re 10-0 to start the season. Clark posted a double-double against Plains with 20 points and then had 14 points against Carlinville on Saturday.

Olivia Felts (Williamsville Forward) With the Abu-Tayeh twins off at college, the Bullets need someone to step up and take over for the Williamsville basketball team that won the Sangamo last season. Turns out, the Lady Bullets are in good hands with Olivia Felts who put up 19 points against Athens to show that dubville will be in the race for the conference crown once again.

Jacob Pfeiffer (Lutheran Forward) The Crusaders have a legit center this season. Lutheran High senior Jacob Pfeiffer has the size and has shown some flashes of great skill around the basket. Last week he put up some impressive numbers that have other 1A schools wondering how they’ll stop him if he continues to perform at that level. Pfeiffer had 24 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks against Jacksonville Routt, those are big boy numbers no matter what the level of competition.

Hutchison, Walker & Putnam (Glenwood wrestlers) The Glenwood wrestling team is off to quite the start in the 2016-2017 season ranked six out of 144 2A teams on the Illinois Best Weekly rankings. The Titans finished second in their own tourney on Saturday thanks to three guys who won they weight class titles. Connor Hutchison won the 138 pound title on Saturday at the Glenwood Invitational, Garrick Walker won the 145 pound division and Will Putnam won the heavyweight division.

Gage Hamill (Springfield Swimmer) For the first time in school history, the Springfield High swim team returned home from Macomb over the weekend with a title. Hamill led the way for the Solons by winning the 100 yard butterfly and anchoring two relays (200 & 400 free) to beat the other nine teams. The future Hoosier will likely be on this list a few times this winter sports season so if you get a chance to see him swim, go do it.
