Filling in for Logan Willard who is out for another game due to a violation of team rules, Max Thuma scored three goals to lead the Senators past Mattoon in the 2A sectional semifinal on Tuesday afternoon.
Kelby Phillips and Nate Cheung each added second half goals as Springfield pulled away from a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Senators will play Glenwood in the 2A sectional championship on Friday evening.
