Prime Time Performers: October 17th – 22nd

BIG PTP No Add

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

Nash Oldenettel (Jacksonville Midfielder) There’s moments in high school sports that you never forget as an athlete. Saturday night will be at the top of the list for Nash Oldenettel. Playing in his final game on their home field, the captain took a corner kick with 46 seconds left in the second overtime and bent it in for the game winning goal. The goal gave the Crimsons the regional championship and sent them on to the Waterloo sectional.

Ryan McLaughlin (Auburn Running Back) We saw it last season in Auburn’s run to the state title game. This season, it just hasn’t quite clicked…that is until Week 9. Senior running back Ryan McLaughlin broke out against New Berlin and powered his Trojans into the playoffs. Ryno scored six touchdowns against the Pretzels and racked up 157 yards on the ground.

Brian Adams (SHG Running Back) If you know anything about football in central Illinois, you’ve heard the name Tremayne Lee. But SHG has a whole stable of running backs and the one that’s gotten the least recognition this season scored two touchdowns and ran for 78 yards in Week 9. Brian “BB” Adams came in to give Lee a breather a few times against Eisenhower and it took full advantage, breaking off touchdown runs of 38 yards and 20 yards and that was half of his touches.

Devin Foy (Glenwood Defensive Back) The offense had no problems against the Lincoln defense in Week 9, but Glenwood’s defense put up a few points as well. Glenwood defensive back Devin Foy ended Lincoln’s strongest drive of the game in dramatic fashion, intercepting Andrew Yount at the 7 yard line and returning it 93 yards for a Titan touchdown.

Klay Wood & Marquel White (Jacksonville Running Backs) There’s a two headed monster lined up behind Avery Dugan. Whether it’s Marquel “Booby Miles” White or Klay Wood, defenses trying to stop the rush have serious issues. The two combined for five touchdowns and 203 yards against Southeast as the Crimsons picked up their sixth win of the season.

Avante’ Cox (Rochester Wide Receiver) With the offense struggling to find a spark on Thursday night, the Rochester Rockets knew it was only a matter of time before Avante’ Cox got going. The Rockets wide receivers scored three touchdowns against Springfield High, all off the arm of Nic Baker to make sure Rochester finished the CS8 regular season in second place.

Caitlin Tierney (Springfield High Swimmer) Last year she survived a Ten Question Tuesday. This year, she powered the Senators to another City swim title. Caitlin Tierney won the 100 free with a time of 54.13, won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.83 and was the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay that also took first to make sure the Solons were City Champs for the sixth straight season.

Brandon Odam (Taylorville Quarterback) It’s good to see the sophomore back under center for the Tornadoes. After an injury caused Odam to miss a few games, Brandon is back and seems to be finding his stride at the right time for the Tornadoes heading into the postseason. Odam threw for 400 passing yards and three scores against Bethalto Civic Memorial in Week 9.

Ethan Clarke (Pawnee Running Back) Some get on Prime Time Performer for a big moment in the game that helped their team win, others put up such massive numbers it’s impossible to ignore. Pawnee’s Ethan Clarke put up numbers as big as his biceps Friday night. The junior tailback had 257 yards rushing and three scores on the ground, 62 receiving yards and one score in the air and he had six tackles on defense.

Jarius Jackson (Lanphier Running Back) It wasn’t exactly the season that the North Side expected but it ended with a bang. The Lions won Week 9 against MacArthur, thanks to Jarius Jackson. The Lanphier running back put up 249 yards on the ground and scored four times against the Generals to help the Lions pick up their second win of the season.

D.J. Mumaw (Williamsville Defensive Line) Jace and Justice get all the glory and again shined in Week 9, scoring six times between the two, but the Bullets defense delivered as well. Against a tough Athens team to prepare for D.J. Mumaw led the way on the line, picking up a couple Big Nasties and hard hits against the Warriors. Williamsville’s first team defense gave up just one big scoring play to Athens, but held them down enough to let their offense do the rest.
