It might be impossible to find consensus on the top girls soccer team to ever come out of the Springfield area, but with a 4-0 win in a 2A state championship game over Deerfield on Saturday, Rochester didn't just join the conversation, they completed a pretty strong case for the title of "best ever."

Rochester won a class 1A state title 6-1 a season ago, one year after finishing as the 1A state runner up. A jump to class 2A this season represented a new challenge for a team staring at huge expectations. The Rockets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in at the 23:36 mark of the first half. 5-foot-3 sophomore Katie Cochran, who had one goal on the season, headed home an Ally Milnes corner kick.

The goal turned the momentum in a game that Deefield had controlled early. Becca Jostes added to the lead before the half with her first goal of the game and Amanda Williams added a pair of second half goals in the 4-0 win.
