Trailing halfway through the meet, Springfield High head coach Trae Cotner told Heath Warren that it didn't look like they could win their eighth straight boys City title. Warren went on to win the 800, set a new meet record in the 1600 and anchor the winning 4×400 meter relay team to give the Senators a 121.5 to 109 win over Lanphier.
Wendel Burnes anchored the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays teams for Springfield wins and he picked up the win in the 100.
Lanphier's Rudy Ester won the long jump and triple jump, while Cameron Smith won the 110 & 300 meter hurdles for the Lions.
